In Egyptian mythology, Naunet (or Nunet) is the goddess of the primordial, watery abyss of the Underworld and one of the Ogdoad. Her name means “Abyss.” Naunet was pictured as a snake or as a snake-headed woman. Sometimes Naunet was thought to have given birth to Ra and Thoth. However, occasionally she was considered to have been created by Thoth. She was married to Nu.
